Wearing O' The Green

I realize the holiday has come and gone but this is the first time I was able to sit down and post (with pictures) about St. Patrick's Day. Matt had the day off and Britain has preschool only in the morning so they went out together while I had to work a half day. He dropped off Britain at school and met up with my cousin Steve and Steve's girlfriend Amy for green eggs and ham at Calamaries.

Then he picked up Britain and they had some green popcorn at Plymouth.
I'm assuming this was not BRIT'S green beer, but I also wasn't there so I can't say for sure.

Then they headed up to Molly Brannigan's where I was to meet them for lunch. Britain was excited I was coming to save her from sitting in booths and chairs all morning. By the way, I put her in an authentic Irish kilt which she totally didn't wear last year. Someone came up to me at Molly's and asked if she was an Irish dancer. I told them she's been doing it since the 6th grade.

The scene from the balcony at Molly's. This was at 1 pm.

Then I was out of work and showed up. That day was beautiful weather wise and standing in line outside Molly's was really pleasant. I was still a bit angry and apprehensive towards Matt because of all the trouble we've been having. I got there and I just felt rubbed the wrong way so it was hard for me to just JUMP right in to St. Patrick's Day. I realize this is because of how I feel in my own head but it still sucks a lot to corner, face and tackle your deepest, dirtiest issues. It also didn't help that I had worked all morning and they were at least 4 to 5 drinks ahead of me. Add to that that there was a cover charge to get in the place. Plus Britain totally ignores Matt when I am around and was hanging all over me, whining. And to top it all off, the waitress hadn't come with the drink I ordered via text 1/2 hour ago. It started off horribly for me.

Ugh: WORK HAIR

I cannot stand to go to a bar and just drink. I don't know how many of you reading this have ever been out with me but if you have, you know I go out for a purpose. It is not to sit on my ass and throw back shot after shot. I am normally like this anyway but especially when I get alcohol in my system. We need to be doing something else: darts, pool, dancing, body shots SOMETHING! So, I left them upstairs and took Britain downstairs where the action was (yes into the green mob from the picture above) and were jigging and shuffling like the best of them. By this time I had some Irish coffee and 2 Skinny Bachs (Bacardi and diet) so I felt a bit better. It's horrible to say but sometimes when I don't have to be reminded of my problems by Matt being right there, I'm in a better mood.

We then moved on to the new sports bar downtown, Sluggers. The walk from Molly's to Sluggers was only about 6 blocks and it was so nice out. It was cute walking Britain in her little outfit down State Street. Even the grumpy old homeless man talking to himself stopped and smiled. Sluggers advertised a full line of entertainment later in the day so we thought the 3 o'clock arrival would be a good time to go. My cousin Steve turned me on to that place because of their amazing food. I think I've been there every week since I first went. And it wasn't nearly as crowded. I did feel a little trashy taking my child out with me to my St Patrick's Day celebration, but I also felt if we had her in by dinner, most people wouldn't blame me. I'm teaching her about her culture, afterall.

Britain and I danced some more at Sluggers. The DJ was even kind enough to play one her favorite songs "Walking On Sunshine" and we only got two bitchy looks from some whores at the bar.

We parted ways: Steve and Amy went back to their hotel room at Avalon, Matt went to the Gannon basketball championship game and Britain and I went home and watched Barbie and The Diamond Castle. I intended on going out that night to see New Wave but thought better of it when we hadn't found a sitter, I had to work in the morning and St. Patrick's Day wasn't exactly all it was cracked up to be for me that day. I am officially old.

this is so awesome. i'm sitting here at work trying to describe St.Pat's in Erie and i feel like i'm just digging myself deeper and deeper into a hole.

if you haven't lived it, you just don't get it.

Looks like you're keeping up with the "God Damn Welfare Mother" nametag - taking your kid bar hopping and feeding them junk like green popcorn. You might as well just cart your kids around all day on that gubmit money - maybe you'll be able to get PHAT $500 A MONTH.

(hopefully you'll get the GDWM thing ;) )

I also felt in some ways I was too old for St. Patty's Day but I ended up having so much fun, I want to do it all again next year. Alli and I were up at 5:30 which is reg for me on a work day anyways. See that's what adults have over the youngsters who are used to sleeping in until 12:00. We went to brekfast first which I wasn't all about but then we hit the bar and had lunch. We were all pretty tipsy by 3:30 so we headed home for a nap (too old). By the time we got up and hit the place we were supposed to continue partying, we were all over it. Instead we got burgers and fries, went to the porn store and then saw The Last House on the Left. It was awesome and I wouldn't do it any different next year.

A nanny since 1996, I'm tired of washing nipples that aren't mine.
